These master specifications and design guidelines are intended to provide information and resources to architectural/engineering consultants designing projects for the Port of Portland or its tenants. The documents are updated frequently; please download the current version when starting work on a new project.

Construction Master Specifications

The Port’s construction master specifications are written in accordance with the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) 2004 Masterformat guidelines for organizing and numbering sections within 49 divisions. They are designed to be edited extensively for specific projects.

If you are looking for a section that is not part of the Port’s master system, refer to the Port Preferred Section Numbers list. The Port specification writer assigned to your project may be able to provide a section from a recent past project to use as a starting point. If no master or past project section is available, you will be expected to develop the section yourself, matching the format of our masters.

Standard Details

These standard details are to be used for penetrations, diagrams and schedules related to structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.

These details are posted in both Acrobat PDF and AutoCAD DWG format. You will need to have Adobe Acrobat or AutoCAD on your PC in order to open these files.

Consultants working under the direction of the Port’s engineering department for design of Port-sponsored projects should work directly with the Port’s project engineer and CAD technician to obtain appropriate standard details.

These design guidelines are for consultants performing, or desiring to perform, engineering design and/or drafting services for the Port of Portland. Instructions and examples presented will help consultants produce drawings and specifications that are consistent with the Port’s format, appearance, and professional standard.

Design Guidelines

These guidelines apply to the approved construction, alteration, relocation, or demolition of Port-owned buildings or facilities. For the PDX terminal building, this includes any electrical, electronic, telephone, fire alarm, security access, public address, communications, control, CCTV, fiber optics, mechanical, plumbing, heating/ventilating, temperature control, or other system to a line 5 feet outside the building perimeter.
