Volunteer Information Program

Please note that our volunteer program is currently on hiatus in response to COVID-19.

Looking for a unique, fun volunteer opportunity in a vibrant environment that reflects the culture of our state? Join the Volunteer Information Program (VIP) here at PDX!

Nearly 20 million passengers come through the Portland International Airport each year, and our volunteers play a significant role in welcoming guests to the region and helping travelers get on their way.

Through the PDX VIP Program, volunteers provide information, wayfinding, and problem-solving to travelers every day of the week, from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Our volunteers have served travelers in the following ways since 1993:

  • Staffing our information booths in the Baggage Claim Area, where they answer questions ranging from public transportation options to tourist attractions.
  • Walking the concourses to assist travelers with directions, flight information, lost and found, and other questions they have.
  • Supporting passengers in our international arrivals area, welcoming them to PDX.

Participants are required to volunteer 12 hours per month for one year (for a total of at least 144 hours in a year). Volunteers also must be at least 18 years of age and must pass a criminal background check.

Please note that we are not currently accepting new volunteers. Training and onboarding is held as needed, quarterly or semi-annually. Please fill out our Google Form to be added to our waitlist. If you have other questions, you may email Mindy Coolidge, our Volunteer Program Coordinator.
