PDX Volunteers

The PDX Volunteer Information Program (VIP) engages volunteers in a unique, fun volunteer opportunity in a vibrant environment that reflects the culture of our region.

Our program

Nearly 20 million passengers come through the Portland International Airport each year, and volunteers play a significant role in welcoming guests to the region and helping travelers get on their way.

Through the PDX VIP Program, volunteers provide information, wayfinding, and problem-solving to travelers every day of the week, from 5:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Our volunteers have served travelers in the following ways since 1993:

• Staffing information booths in Baggage Claim, answering questions ranging from baggage to public transportation options.
• Walking concourses to assist travelers with directions, flight information, lost and found, and more.
• Welcome passengers to PDX in our international arrivals area.

Requirements

Participants are required to volunteer 12 hours per month (for a total of at least 144 hours in a year) in order to keep up their knowledge of PDX, which is a changing environment. Volunteers commit to the program for at least one year; we invest time and resources into volunteers, which is why we ask for a long term commitment. Volunteers also must be at least 18 years of age and must pass a criminal background check.

Training and onboarding

Training and onboarding is held on an as-needed basis, generally semi-annually, and due to staff capacity, we are not recruiting new volunteers at this time. Please feel free to join the waitlist to be notified about the next onboarding session.
