New Rental Car Center Opens at Portland International Airport

The rental car center makes holiday travel even easier for visitors as all rental cars are located onsite – no need for shuttles!

The Port of Portland’s PDX Next program is delivering a convenient, comfortable and uniquely PDX experience for travelers and employees. Today, with the opening of a new rental car center at Portland International Airport renting a car is easier and more convenient for travelers.

The bright and beautiful new facility reflects the Pacific Northwest with its open and spacious layout, warm wood panels, natural lighting, and new art installations celebrating the region's diversity. The journey for visitors is even easier through a tunnel with no weather exposure.

“Traveling from PDX to our region just got even easier and more convenient with all of our rental car partners onsite and an easier route through the building,” said Dan Pippenger, chief operating officer at the Port of Portland. “The new rental car center also gets us one step closer to reducing congestion on our roadways by eliminating rental car shuttles and moving our shared rides to a new location in Summer 2022.”

PDX currently serves 11 rental car partners – now all within walking distance onsite: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, Thrifty, along with new additions Sixt and Zipcar.

The rental car center includes three new permanent art installations celebrating our region’s diversity along the way to pick up a car: Ben Butler’s piece is a curved wood installation is inspired by the region’s history with Douglas firs; Perez Westbrooks created a 20 feet tall and 40 feet wide digital arts mural featuring plants that are native to the Pacific Northwest; and DeWitt Godfrey has a sculpture outside the rental car center opening Spring 2022.

The rental car center invested in a new technology called CarbonCure that reduces carbon emissions by permanently trapping more carbon dioxide in concrete. PDX is the first in the region to utilize this low-carbon concrete and, by bringing this technology to Portland, it’s now available to other projects in the area.

Women and minority owned businesses as well as veteran owned businesses provided over $30M in design and construction services as part of the new rental car center at PDX.

PDX Next is the Port of Portland’s $2B program to deliver a convenient, comfortable, uniquely PDX experience for travelers and employees now and into the future at Portland International Airport. To learn more visit: https://www.pdxnext.com
